Working gas continuing to be pulled from storage

The volume of working natural gas pulled from underground storage during the week ended March 23 totaled 63 billion cubic feet (Bcf), 1 4.4% week-to-week drop, to 1.38 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), from 1.45 Tcf in storage during the week ended March 16.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly stored working gas survey found four of five storage regions EIA divides the Lower 48 U.S. states into to track working gas, reported a week-to-week drop in product. (All numbers are rounded.)

The latest total was down 672 Bcf, or 32.7%, from the year-ago total of 2.06 Tcf, and was down 346 Bcf, or 20.0%, from the five-year average of 1.73 Tcf, Kallanish Energy reports.

The South Central Region actually gained 1 Bcf during the week ended March 23, to 603 Bcf, from 602 Bcf one week earlier. The most recent South Central Region total was down 329 Bcf, or 35.3%, from the year-ago total of 932 Bcf, and was down 115 Bcf, or 16.0%, from the five-year average of 718 Bcf.

The biggest week-to-week drop in stored working gas was in the Midwest Region, down 31 Bcf, or 9.8%, to 284 Bcf, from 315 Bcf, EIA found.

The latest Midwest total was down 205 Bcf, or 41.9%, from the year-ago total of 489 Bcf, and was down 86 Bcf, or 23.2%, from the five-year average of 370 Bcf.
